DACs are commonly used in music players to convert digital data streams into analog audio signals. They are also used in televisions and mobile phones to convert digital video data into analog video signals. These two applications use DACs at opposite ends of the frequency/resolution trade-off.
An ADC is used to convert an analogue signal such as voltage to a digital form so that it can be read and processed by a microcontroller. Some microcontrollers have built-in ADC converters. It is also possible to connect an external ADC converter to any type of microcontroller.
The advantages of Digital to Analog Converter are: Weighted Resistor Circuit is the fastest converting circuit compared to other methods. High resolution and accuracy can be achieved. DAC's are simple to implement.
